BASC Grouse Debate

MPs have just finished debating a petition to ban driven grouse shooting. The key points to come out of the session were:

• The debate featured input from all parties, and support for grouse shooting from Conservative, SNP and DUP MPs was welcomed

• BASC’s detailed brief was referenced heavily throughout the debate

• BASC will use this debate to invite MPs up to grouse moors to meet gamekeepers and hear first-hand the benefits provided from game management

• Look out for our in-depth account of the debate in due course

Christopher Graffius, director of communications and public affairs at BASC commented: “It’s quite clear that Parliament has rejected the petition to ban grouse shooting. MPs emphasised the benefits of grouse shooting to wildlife, conservation and local communities. Management of our uplands is critical to biodiversity and conservation.”
